General Guidelines

Internship Duration & Working Hours

  1. Duration of Internship: 8 weeks in June-Aug 2017
  2. Working Hours: 9am to 6pm

Where work requires it for event coverage etc., you might have to be on call after work hours.

Daily Work Arrangements

The FUCHSIA Karachi Team will be led by the FUCHSIA Karachi Lead, a member of Team FUCHSIA. It will take on a non-traditional structure, moving between onsite, offsite, mobile and long-distance coordination. As a general guideline, the daily work arrangements will be as such:

  1. Interns will report to a specified location daily at 9am to report to the FUCHSIA Karachi Lead. At this morning meeting, the rest of the day will be charted out.
  2. Interns will ensure availability for prompt communication over email and Whatsapp during work hours, except for when offsite work requires otherwise. 
  3. Interns will maintain a daily log of activities and submit summaries of progress on a weekly basis.
  4. Interns will commute independently to and from meeting/internship locations.

FUCHSIA Marketing Intern, Marketing Intern (Digital), Marketing Intern (PR): 

These three positions will be responsible for marketing and publicity of FUCHSIA, providing custom-based solutions for clients seeking marketing support and/or public relations, networking and business development.

All Marketing Interns will:

  • Define and scope the target market i.e. The FUCHSIA reader.
  • Develop a FUCHSIA marketing plan for international implementation, including in-depth marketing component analysis advertising and publicity, strategies for rising market share, identification of marketing channels,   
  • Craft and adhere to marketing budgets, monitoring closely all finances, and advising on improvements to financial structure.
  • Create a reader profile based on consumer behaviour, readership habits, tastes and preferences, income groups, age brackets etc.
  • Fulfil weekly/monthly targets of database of FUCHSIA readers.
  • Work with international clients to develop promotions/marketing strategy for their events/products.
  • Implement promotions/marketing strategy for international clients.
  • Engage in cross-promotional activities with marketing partners.
  • Build market familiarity of the FUCHSIA logo, brand and personality through relationship building with partners such as media houses, production house, PR companies etc.
  • Develop and build a database for B2B connections in order to partner with relevant brands in future.
  • Attend events, representing FUCHSIA and doing basic coverage through pictures and videos for prompt updating on FUCHSIA social media and where necessary, writing short coverage captions for publishing.   

In addition to the functions of all Marketing Interns, the Marketing Intern (Digital) will also:

  • Develop a digital media marketing plan, including a clear strategy with campaigns for Facebook, Youtube, Instagram, Twitter and any other relevant platforms.
  • Develop content relevant to FUCHSIA’s target market and readers.
  • Monitor and coordinate all activities on social media, ensuring material is uploaded and responded to in a timely manner. 
  • Implement marketing/publicity campaigns on social media for international clients.
  • Assist the The FUCHSIA Lounge (TFL) Team in ensuring relevant, current and up-to-date activity on TFL page.

In addition to the functions for all Marketing Interns, the Marketing Intern (PR) will also:

  • Develop and build a database for B2B connections in order to partner with relevant brands in future.

At least one of the above positions will be of a Finance background.

FUCHSIA Editorial Intern

  • Design, conceptualize and execute themes and content for the various content-sections of FUCHSIA including written article text, video features, photograph features, interviews etc.
  • Edit all text material published by FUCHSIA including text articles, feature text, copywriting for marketing and PR collateral etc.
  • Seek out and identify potential Contributing Writers for FUCHSIA, and work closely with them to develop the content of each article/feature they contribute, ensuring it fits the FUCHSIA image and branding while bringing across the writer’s unique input.
  • Work with the supervision of Lead Editor in Singapore and Team Lead in Pakistan.
  • Write a pre-determined number of articles/features, as agreed upon with FUCHSIA Karachi Lead and/or Lead Editor.
  • Craft and adhere to editorial budgets, monitoring closely all finances, and advising on improvements to financial structure.
  • Assist the FUCHSIA Karachi Lead in managing the FUCHSIA Karachi Team including workplan allocation, human resource etc.
  • Attend events, representing FUCHSIA and doing basic coverage through pictures and videos for prompt updating on FUCHSIA social media and where necessary, writing short coverage captions for publishing. (Optional, Not Required)

FUCHSIA Design Intern

  • Design and develop the aesthetic layout and artwork for each article based on its content, guidelines from the writers etc. using Photoshop and other relevant software.
  • Design and present each social media platform in accordance with requirements provided by the Marketing Intern (Digital).
  • Craft and design social media posts on a short-notice basis, with material provided by marketing and editorial interns or external partners etc.
  • Design marketing collateral (posters, videos, pamphlets etc.) to support the various campaigns being rolled out by FUCHSIA Marketing Interns.
  • Craft and adhere to design budgets, monitoring closely all finances, and advising on improvements to financial structure.
  • Carry out basic use of a DSLR to photograph for magazine content and/or event coverage.

The ability to carry out basic editing of videos is a beneficial bonus.

FUCHSIA Website Management Intern

  • Upload all magazine content in a timely manner, coordinating closely with Editorial and Marketing interns.
  • Carry out website analysis of FUCHSIA Magazine including weekly/monthly reports, analytics etc.   
  • Increase traffic on FUCHSIA website by affecting the reach and visibility of the website through SEO, Google adwords and other methods.
  • Craft and recommend monetization strategies through insights from website analysis and relevant analytics software.
  • Monitor and update regularly the content of the website to keep it relevant, current and up-to-date. 
  • Manage all other aspects of FUCHSIA Website.
  • Craft and adhere to website budgets, monitoring closely all finances, and advising on improvements to financial structure.
