FASHION FORECAST – SPRING/SUMMER and the rest of 2016

As we progress from Spring into Summer 2016, more and more trends for the year ahead are becoming prominent; and with a few comebacks, I must say some styles have just blown me away.
So ladies, have a read, and dig deep into those piles of clothing which you weren’t quite ready to let go of, because, believe it or not, they are back on the ramp, the stage and the streets.

TIE & DYE

Don’t we all own at least one piece? Of course, we do! It could be a skirt with a plain white top, a top over denim or just a scarf – tie-and-dye is back, and bright as ever!

PLEATS AND PINSTRIPES

Pleated fabric and pinstripes are streamlining dresses, tops and trousers. Not only are they adding a “couture-ed” look to garments, they can be pulled off by anybody.

Pinstripes

BOLD STRIPES

Bold stripes can visually trick the eye into making a body-frame look taller, thinner or wider. So be careful with this one, ladies, so as not to overdo it. Also, keep them focused on one piece of clothing, to avoid the fleeing-criminal look.

VINTAGE LACE

Lace was just everywhere last year! This year the trend continues, except it has a vintage twist to it.

Amidst smart-casual and uber-trendy trends of figure-hugging dresses, frills and embellished lace designs, vintage lace is providing an alternative away from the fancy-dress look.

Ruffles

DAISIES MEETS COWGIRL

Floral prints, flowing chiffon, ruffles and all-things-feminine worn with one bold or faux leather vest, jacket or hat is the in-thing.

ROBES

As much as these are back in vogue, they can be a bit tricky when one ends up looking like one is ready to go to bed or, worse, wore their dressing-robe out!

Wearing them in print? Keep the rest simple.

Wearing them in block colours? Still keep the rest simple.

I recommend robing over either a plain, dark T-shirt with a pair of jeans, or a collared shirt and plain trousers.

HALF-MOON BAG

Time to invest in a bag which is neither tote nor hobo! This half-moon shaped bag is a refreshing new style, suitable for everyday use, and looking the part too.

SHALWARS

Last but not least – some love them, some hate them – shalwars are back with a vengeance. Not just the traditional ones but tulip, dhoti and several other styles will be seen at weddings, parties and on the ramp! I’m not too big on them myself, and so the guddi cut (almost trouser) will just have to do.

While these may seem like an overwhelming variety of fashion trends but, trust me, these are only a few! The trick is to rock what you can, and keep away from anything which looks like a fashion faux pas.
